Book Your Spot on the Variante Espiritual Boat
Can you imagine doing a stage of the Camino de Santiago sailing among islands, stone crosses and ancient legends? 🕊️ The Traslatio Route makes it possible. It’s the only maritime stage of the Camino and part of the Variante Espiritual of the Portuguese Way—a unique journey that blends history, spirituality and the natural beauty of the Ría de Arousa.
Every year, thousands of pilgrims choose to experience this boat stage as a highlight of their pilgrimage. In this article, we’ll tell you everything you need to know to book your seat on the Variante Espiritual boat.
Sailing in the Footsteps of the Apostle
The Traslatio Route retraces the legendary journey of the Apostle Saint James’ body from Jerusalem to Galicia. Tradition says that his disciples sailed through the Ría de Arousa and the Ulla River in a stone boat to reach Padrón.
Today, you can follow the same path aboard a modern boat with a traditional soul. Along the journey, you’ll see:
- Mussel farms (bateas), the heart of Galician seafood 🌊
- The Maritime Way of the Cross with its 17 stone cruceiros, unique in the world
- The islands of the Cortegada National Park and the medieval Towers of Catoira
All while listening to fascinating stories from local maritime guides.
